Custom Work: How It Works

Want something made just for you? As well as our shop, we design custom work for people and small businesses. We're an online studio, so everything happens by email, phone or video call, wherever you are. Here's how it works, from your first message to your finished files. ✏️

🎨 What we can make for you#

• Custom tee or apparel design – an original design for a tee, hoodie or other garment, made print-ready for our UK print partner. From £120 for a text or typography-led design with 1 print placement (illustrated designs from £180).
• Personalised printable – your names or dates added to one of our existing designs, such as wall art, gift tags or invitations. From £15 per design, for personal use only.
• Bespoke digital printable or planner – a brand-new printable or planner designed around you. From £90 for a single printable; planners from £190.
• Small brand or merch pack – stickers, labels and logo-based designs for products, built from your existing logo. From £300 for up to 3 items, with commercial use included.
• Mock-ups only – your own artwork shown on our product mock-ups, ideal for listings and social posts. We don't change your design. From £15 for 3 mock-ups.

These are "from" prices for the standard version of each service. We'll always confirm your exact price in a written quote before any work starts. Bigger projects, such as branding, website and store projects, are quoted individually.

⏱️ Timelines and revisions#

Turnaround is in working days (Monday to Friday) and starts once we have your full brief and your payment or deposit. Time spent waiting for your feedback isn't included. We're closed at weekends and on England and Wales bank holidays.

➕ Optional extras#

• Extra revision round: from £10 (personalised printables); £25 (other services)
• Rush – about half the standard turnaround, when we have capacity: +50% of the design price (minimum £15)
• Commercial licence (custom tee or apparel design and bespoke digital printable or planner only – not personalised printables) – sell products with your design or use it for your business: +50% of the design price (minimum £40)
• Editable source files (AI, PSD or Canva): +25% of the design price (minimum £25)
• Full copyright transfer of your final design (by written agreement): from £300, quoted individually

• which service you're interested in
• your wording, sizes and colours
• any examples you like
• your deadline
• whether it's for personal or business use

📋 2. Get your quote#

We'll send you a written quote showing what's included, your revision rounds, turnaround, files, licence and price.

💳 3. Approve and pay#

• Orders under £100 are paid in full upfront.
• Orders of £100 or more need a 50% deposit, with the balance due before your final files are sent.

Depending on your project, we'll either send you a secure checkout link through our website, where you can use any of our usual payment options, or an invoice to pay by bank transfer. Prices are in pounds sterling. We're not VAT registered, so no VAT is charged. See Payment, Prices & Discount Codes.

🔐 Our bank details are only ever on your invoice and never change by email. If in doubt, call 0330 043 4513.

✏️ 4. Concepts and drafts#

We start once we have your full brief and your payment or deposit, and we'll send your concepts or drafts within the turnaround for your service.

🔁 5. Revisions#

Please send your changes as one consolidated list per round – that's what counts as a revision round. Your included rounds are shown on your quote, and extra rounds can be added at the price above.

📁 6. Delivery#

Once you approve the final design and any balance is paid, we send your files:

• Custom tee or apparel design: PNG 4500 × 5400px at 300dpi with a transparent background, plus a mock-up JPG
• Personalised printable: print-ready PDF (A4 or A3, with 3mm bleed if needed) and a JPG
• Bespoke digital printable or planner: PDF (print and screen versions) and PNG, plus a Canva template link if requested
• Small brand or merch pack: PNG, PDF and SVG (where possible), plus mock-ups
• Mock-ups only: 3 JPG mock-ups at 2048px

💡 Good to know#

• Your content and rights: you must own, or have the rights to, anything you send us. We don't use characters, brands, celebrity likenesses or parody logos.
• Licences and copyright: your design comes with a personal or commercial licence, depending on the service and options you choose. North & Ink keeps the copyright unless you buy a full copyright transfer, which is agreed in writing.
• Personalised items are made exactly as you provide them, so please check names, dates and spelling carefully. See Personalised & Custom Store Orders.
• Printed items: anything printed for you is made to order by our UK print partner. If it arrives faulty, damaged or incorrect, please contact us within 7 days of the expected delivery date. See Lost, Delayed or Damaged Orders.

↩️ Your right to cancel#

If you're buying as a consumer, you normally have 14 days to cancel.

• Personalised or made-to-spec items: physical items made to your specification or clearly personalised, such as a custom-printed tee, can't be cancelled or returned unless they're faulty.
• Digital downloads: the right to cancel ends once you've agreed to the download starting straight away and accepted that you lose it.
• Custom design work: with your agreement, we can start within the 14 days. If you cancel after we've started, we may keep a fair amount for the work done, and the right to cancel ends once your finished files are delivered.
